Iowa Park High School band earns 35th consecutive sweepstakes

Local News

The Iowa Park High School band earned a sweepstakes award for the 35th consecutive year at the University Interscholastic League meet in Anson, Texas, on Tuesday, March 6.

According to the Iowa Park Leader, the band received “1s” from all six judges in the UIL Region 7 Concert and Sightreading contest. After receiving a superior “1” rating in the UIL Marching Contest last fall, the combination of the ratings in the concert and sightreading contest earned the band the sweepstakes award.

“The band woke early that day so they could hit the road at 6 a.m.,” Director Charlie Bradberry said. “I am very proud of the band’s accomplishment.”

The Hawk band performed selections including the Colditz March by Robert Farnon, Sleep by Eric Whitacre and Joy Revisited by Frank Ticheli, under direction from Bradberry and W.F. Middle School band personnel Teresa Archambo.

Judges in the concert portion included Mike Lewis, Mike Lunney and Keith Zuchlke. In sightreading, judges were Jeannie Lunney, Tom Ray and Bob Anderson.
