Iwo Jima Survivors Kick Off Reunion

Local News
The Iwo Jima survivors officially kicked off their final reunion in Wichita Falls Friday morning.

They gathered with their family members to sing the national anthem, say the pledge of allegiance and pray for the weekend.

Many vets brought their spouses, children, and grandchildren.

After 24 years, this is the final year for this event.

Organizers say as these survivors age, it’s gotten harder for them to travel to Wichita Falls for the reunion.

The community is invited to take part in several of the ceremonies taking place this weekend to honor this battlefield survivors, including the flag raising re-enactment.

That will be saturday at 10 a.m. at the Wellington Banquet Center.

A Missing Man Flyover will take place at 3 p.m., followed by the All Forces Dinner at 6:30 p.m.
