After 53 years of service to children, Northwest Boys and Girls Club Director Jerry Taylor is signing off.

Taylor joined the Wichita Falls YMCA as a youth and then started his career in the Eastside YMCA at the age of 16-years-old as a chief lifeguard and swim instructor.

He worked in other youth programs around the nation, then returned to Wichita Falls to work with the Boys and Girls Clubs.

The Boys and Girls Club of Wichita Falls mission is to inspire and enable all young people to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring adults.

Taylor said in all those 53 years, he learned as much about life and how to succeed from the kids as they did from him.

“Be humble, that’s for sure, at what you do and always stay focused on what you wanna do,” Taylor said. “Don’t let distractions get ya. If you set your goals on some things you want to have accomplished work it until you get it.”

Members of the Boys and Girls Clubs threw a party to celebrate his retirement though Taylor said his work with children is far from over.
