Judge Rules that Transgender Bathroom Injunction Applies to All States

A district judge ruled this week that the injunction against the Obama administration over bathroom rights for transgender students does apply to all states, not just states that have filed suits over the rules.
Texas and other states are suing the federal government over guidelines issued by the Department of Education allowing transgender students to choose which bathroom they want to use.
The Justice Department had requested that a judge limit to the injunction to just the 13 states in the lawsuit. On Monday, US District Judge Reed O’Connor denied the request.
The injunction prevents the Departments of Justice and Education from withholding federal dollars from school districts that do not make bathrooms available to students based on their gender identity.
The recent opinion marks another victory for plaintiffs, which includes the Harrold School District, located west of Wichita Falls.
