Local News

A Quanah man is sentenced to 60 years in prison for murder in the shooting death of another man at the Starr Street Apartments in Quanah August 2018.

Edward Demond Reese, 35, must serve at least 30 years before being eligible for parole. In addition, the jury gave him 10-years for illegal possession of a firearm, which will be served concurrently to his other sentence.

Witnesses said Reese fired several shots at Taylor Garcia, 22, after the two got in an argument outside the apartments.

In his trial, Reese claimed he was nervous about Garcia because of a previous confrontation and that Garcia came at him “aggressively” while reaching toward his waistband. Reese said he fired in self-defense and hit Garcia in the chest. Prosecutor Staley Heatly said Reese fled the scene and threw the gun on the side of a dirt road.

The medical examiner said Garcia was struck three times in the back.
