Kelly Crush Memorial Scholarship Chili Cook-Off exceeds last year’s funds raised

An event meant to assist the children of Wichita Falls firefighters also continues to keep a firefighter’s legacy alive.

Saturday marked year six for the Kelly Crush Memorial Scholarship Chili Cook-Off. Crush died seven years ago from ALS.

The cook-off event is a partnership between the Wichita Falls Professional Firefighters Association and the Chili Appreciation Society International. Monies raised go to a scholarship benefiting children of firefighters.

“It’s great to see our community come out and support us and interact with everybody and just have a good time. We did really good today. The weather was great. A lot of people came out and helped us out,” Trey Schlegel, an event organizer and Wichita Falls firefighter, said.

Schlegel said about $3500 was raised, thanks to the generosity of those attending the cook-off.
