Local Restaurant Owner Receives High Honor

One of Wichita Falls’ very own has received the highest honor from the Texas Restaurant Association.

Scott Plowman of Pelican’s and Parkway Grill will be inducted into the TRA’s Hall of Honor.

He began his restaurant career at 16 years old at Pelican’s in El Paso as a dishwasher working his way up to manager.

He was moved to the Lubbock Pelican’s and then was transferred to Parkway Grill in Wichita Falls. 

Scott transitioned the diner into the Parkway Grill & Sports Bar and bought it 21 years ago.

In July 2001 he opened a Pelican’s in Wichita Falls which will be celebrating its 16th anniversary next month. 

He also opened a second Parkway Grill & Sports Bar that celebrated its 5 year anniversary in March.

Scott has been a big part of the North Texas Restaurant Association since joining in 1985. 

He has participated in the Hotter-N-Hell Spaghetti feed, which raises money for NTRA and local charities, for more than 15 years, chairing it for the past 5.

He also participates in NTRA golf tournament which raises funds for the TRA Education Foundation and scholarships for MSU and Vernon College. 

He has served, for more than 20 years, as a NTRA President, NTRA Board Member, TRA State Board Rep, TRA President and served in some NTRA Volunteer capacity. 

He will be opening a new restaurant in El Paso with a longtime friend, called 35 Tavern & Grill.

His induction ceremony will take place at 7 P.M. on July 8 at the Dallas Omni Hotel.

The ceremony will also take place during the TRA’s 2017 Night of Excellence event that is held in conjunction with the 80th Annual TRA Marketplace, the second largest industry foodservice show in the country.
