A Wichita Falls man is charged with beating his father with a cross after the suspect had a confrontation with the victim’s wife, and the investigating officer classified it as assault with a deadly weapon.
Donald Hedge, 25, is charged with aggravated assault family violence and his bond was set at $15,000.
Police officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of Rosemary and said when they arrived, the victim’s wife was outside yelling at him to hurry inside.
When he got in the house, the officer said he saw two men, one with a large amount of blood running down both ears and his face.
He said that man was on top of his son, Hedge, holding him down.
The officer put Hedge in handcuffs and took him outside.
The victim told officers the fight started when his son walked into the house and went up to the victim’s wife and asked if she had a problem with him and if she wanted to get something off her chest and he said his wife said no.
The victim said he knew from past experience that his son would go into the kitchen to get a knife when he got angry so he got in front of the door to the kitchen to block him.
He said his son began cussing at him to get out of the way and began pushing him, so he pushed
Hedge back and that Hedge then ran to the mantel and grabbed an iron cross and began swinging it and hitting him in the back of the head with it.
That’s when he said he got on top of hedge and held him down.
Hedge has a previous conviction last year and was placed on two-years probation.
