A Burkburnett woman may get her wedding ring back, but two other rings may still be missing after police officers said the suspected thief is found selling the ring and a stolen car in Missouri.
Burkburnett police said the woman reported three rings were taken from her car parked in the driveway on a morning drive.
A detective assigned to the case had solved a car theft case a couple of days before the ring theft, in which the stolen car was sold in Springfield, Missouri.
The car was found by police officers there, and the man in possession of it said he had bought it from Chad Phelps.
The detective was aware of Phelps’ local criminal history and did an online search to see if he could place Phelps in Springfield when the car was sold.
He said the check showed Phelps was in Springfield and had sold a wedding ring to a pawn store there two days after the car was stolen in Burkburnett from a driveway on Buckner Street.
Phelps has convictions for burglary, criminal mischief, evading arrest and theft in Burkburnett, Wichita Falls and Jack County.
