An unidentified man reportedly suffered severe burns when a pickup apparently caught fire near Punkin Center sometime overnight or early Tuesday morning.

Electra Police Chief Michael Dozier said it’s unclear what happened or exactly when, but the man and a woman were found in the burned truck in a field off Highway 240 west of Punkin Center shortly before 8 Tuesday morning.

He said the fire appeared to have been out long before authorities arrived.

The woman also suffered burns though they did not appear as serious as the man’s, and both had to be freed from the truck by first responders.

Chief Dozier said the man was flown to a hospital from the scene.

We will have more information and names of the victims when they become available.
