A 42-year-old Wichita Falls man with a long criminal record is charged with assaulting his roommate with a tire iron, and a judge has ordered him not to be released for 48 hours if he posts bond.
That often means they are preparing more charges or a new case against the suspect, or want to have time to notify a victim the person will soon be out of jail.
Bryan Rickard is being held on a quarter million dollars bond.
Police responded to a home in the 2100 block of Hayes in December about a stolen vehicle.
While there they said they discovered a man in a house next door bleeding from a head injury.
They went in to check on him and said that’s when they discovered he had a severe head injury requiring surgery.
No one else was in the house, but police learned Rickard also lived there.
More than a week later, after being released from a rehab center, they said the victim made a police report alleging Rickard had assaulted him with a tire tool.
At the time of the assault, the victim said he was intoxicated and thought he had fallen and hit his head on a coffee table.
And a tire tool was found on the floor of his home.
Police got a statement from the victim’s sister alleging that while in the hospital Rickard came to visit her brother and told her he had hit her brother in the head with the tool.
An officer also learned the car stolen next door ended up in Electra that day and that Rickard showed up in Electra 30 minutes after the car was reported stolen.
They said Rickard told them he was the only person with the victim at the time, and that due to drug and alcohol use he had no memory of what happened.
