Man wanted for hit and run now charged with two felonies

Local News

A man wanted for leaving the scene of a fatal motorcycle accident on October 20, 2017, in Tillman County is now charged with two felonies.

An arrest warrant for negligent homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal accident was issued on Monday for 29-year-old Dakota Kinder, of Frederick.

The bond was originally set at $100,000 but changed to a $3,500 bond when Kinder agreed to turn himself in and he has posted bond.

The wreck happened just after midnight on Highway 5,  west of Frederick.

Troopers say 22-year-old Dillon Barnard was eastbound on Highway 5 on a motorcycle when he was struck by Kinder’s truck.

Barnard’s motorcycle left the roadway to the right and caught fire and he suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers say he was wearing a helmet.

Troopers believe Kinder stopped to check on Barnard and then left the scene.

Kinder’s record shows four speeding citations and a DWI arrest in 2009 for which he was given a deferred sentence.
