A man who stole a gun and fled from police last year, but was caught after he ran directly into a police car, has been sentenced to prison on three charges.
20-year-old Ujamaa Ballard received 5 years for evading arrest, and violation of his probation for tampering with evidence and escape charges.
Police say he was arrested last September at an apartment complex on Seabury Drive after he accused a woman of taking his wallet while he was asleep, and he began punching her in the face.
In 2015 he was arrested at the Crossroads Apartment off Archer City Highway. Police say they tried to search Ballard after noticing he matched the description of a suspect in the theft of a gun in that complex days before.
Authorities say he ran away, was caught, but escaped when officers tried to put him in the back of a police car. They say as they chased him, he ran into a parked police car while looking behind at the pursuing officers.
The stolen gun was found in his pocket and he was charged with burglary, resisting arrest, and escape while arrested.
