Following an internal investigation of a citizen’s complaint, Chief Deputy of Montague County Sheriff’s Office Chris Hughes turned in his resignation Thursday, June 14 at the request of Sheriff Marshall Thomas.

According to the Bowie News, the sheriff said a citizen made the complaint about 2 weeks ago, which centered around a violation of office policies and law enforcement code of ethics.

Thomas said no criminal activity was determined otherwise he “would have arrested him myself,” he said.
After Thomas took office in January 2017, Hughes was named Chief Deputy.
