Each year in April, the Texoma Child Abuse Prevention Group holds a Walk of Knowledge event.

This year the event was held on the MSU campus where they laid out the number of shoes for the confirmed about of victims abused in Wichita County last year.

CAPS committee member Lisa Choate says the number of confirmed victim of abuse just last year in this county was 585.

The Walk Of Knowledge also features signs with information about symptoms and signs of abuse, what people can do if they suspect abuse and statistic on this crisis.

All shoes and signs are laid out along a sidewalk where people can walk through and read the signs and see all the shoes laid out.

Lisa says having a Walk Of Knowledge each year makes people aware.

“When you see 585 pairs, that’s a lot and when you think of about there’s a child that goes in each one of those pairs,” Choate said. “There anywhere from our teens who have a need also all the way down to small tiny baby boonies.”

She says its staggering to see the numbers and every life affected my abuse or neglect.
