Wednesday is the grand opening for a school MSU University officials hope will be a great addition to Wichita Falls.
What was once a home is now a school for adults, ages 50 and older here in Wichita Falls.
“This is where probably all of our classes this fall will be held.” LLC Dir. of Adult and Professional Education, Kathy Zuckweiler said.
With the help of staff, faculty, administration and members of the community, President Suzanne Shipley’s vision is finally coming to fruition.
It was the president’s idea to incorporate a lifelong learning center for Wichita Falls residents, to come together for one purpose, to learn.
“I think it’s really exciting for the community because it gives members of the community who are 50 and older, an opportunity to come learn things that they are interested in learning in a really informal environment.” member of LLC & founding board, Elizabeth Yeager said.
Kathy Zuckweiler, dean of the Billie Doris McAda Graduate School, as well as the Director of Adult and Professional Education for the learning center, walked me through the rooms that will be the center for learning.
The MSU facilities crew have been working tirelessly to transform a home into a space for learning.
“This is our small classroom, it’s what we’re calling, at least for right now our film room.” Zuckweiler said. “this could also be the place for small seminars or that type of things”
Current and former faculty members of MSU as well as other members of the community, who all have a love for Wichita Falls, will be teaching the courses that will be offered at the LLC.
“We’ve got 25 classes and they span a huge breathe of topics, we’ve got Music, we’ve got Physics, we’ve got Art, Navajo culture.” Zuckweiler said.
Classes will take place Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2 classes per day, 90 minutes each, with special events on Wednesdays.
The grand opening is Wednesday from 11a.m. To 1p.m. and is open to the community to view and tour. Classes begin on Thursday.
The LLC is located on 2527 Hamstead Lane, on the northeast corner of MSU and to find out more about the LLC and how to become a member, follow this link.
