The man with a new murder charge added to his previous charges Friday remains jailed on more than a half million dollars in bonds.

Now new details on when and where his arrest took place are available.

Police say 46-year-old William David Starnes killed 64-year-old William Stephens when he came to the rescue of Starne’s wife.

Just before noon last Monday, officers were called to the 500 block of Burkburnett road. Witnesses there reported Starnes was assaulting his wife, police say she told them he also tried to run her down with his truck.

They say Stephens had tried to come to the woman’s aid and was struck on the head with a board. The new arrest affidavit for murder states Starnes left the scene and was arrested about 4 pm in the 14-hundred block of North 6th Street where his pickup was parked. Police say they found a board in the bed which matched witness description. Starnes has a lengthy record including assaults on family members and assault of an officer.

Stephens, known as “Wild Bill” to friends was taken to the hospital and was pronounced dead 3 days later from a severe brain injury.
