A more than six decade old tradition continued Sunday in Windthorst with the Knights of Columbus sausage meal.
For many people in the town of Windthorst, the annual sausage meal is just a part of life.
“I’ve been a member of the 4th Degree for 25-and-a-half years,” Matt Schroeder said. “Been helping out for many years before that when I was a kid with my parents. Just a big part of every years and our lives.”
The money raised goes to help many different nonprofits and charities.
“We are a volunteer fire department. Fire danger season is coming up,” said Brad Wolf. “We use whatever money we raise here to help maintain our equipment and our training, so we can go out and service the area and the community as needed. Wichita Falls Rehab Auction is one that’s coming up. Monetarily we support the Wheelchair Foundation. We support an organization called Save the Storks.”
And those who help with the sausage meal are glad to have the chance to give back.
“To be able to help all the different nonprofits and charities, it’s great,” Schroeder said. “It’s what we are called to do as Catholic citizens, Catholic gentlemen, is to help others. The money for this one is split between the fire department, which is an incredible organization, and the Knights of Columbus.”
A community coming together for 68 years to help as many people as possible.
