A Wichita Falls serviceman received quite a patriotic surprise Thursday night when he returned home from being deployed in Afghanistan.

When Maj. Andy Morton’s neighbors heard he was coming home, they started planning to put up welcome home signs, a banner and balloons all down Milby Avenue near Midwestern State University.

Everyone who lives on the street was more than happy to do their part to welcome Morton home with this surprise.

“I think it meant a lot to him. I think so. They were pretty overwhelmed. I don’t think they were expecting it. The response was such a positive from our community, just to welcome him home the best way we knew how,” neighbors Catie Egan & Mollie Lerew said.

Egan and Lerew said this was a way to show their gratitude for his service.

They said they could not have done it without a lot of help from their family, a few students and the Rotary Club which put up the flags in the neighborhood
