As we celebrate International Women’s Month, the Wichita Falls Alliance for Arts and Culture is bringing “New Arts Six” an African American musical ensemble based out of Dallas for a number of performances Friday.
New Arts Six is a six-member all-female group whose mission is to preserve, promote and perform the ethnic folk music of African Americans.
All performances are set to take place on Friday from 10 am to 7:30 pm., including the official concert at the First Presbyterian Church on Taft.
“It’s a 45-minute concert of all negro spirituals, that cut across every culture and faith line that you can imagine because it is the music of America,” Wichita Falls Alliance for Arts and Culture Executive Director Margie Reese said.
To kick things off they are making a stop at 8th Street Coffee House at 10 am, a way to remind everyone that there is no need for a formal space to experience creativity.
“Having this pop-up downtown says to the people in the downtown area, take a break to enjoy the arts, you don’t have to go very far and you patronize a downtown business,” Reese said.
