New commander to take charge at Altus AFB

At the Altus Air Force Base, a new commander will take charge of the 97th Air Mobility Wing at 9 a.m. on June 21.

The base will welcome Col. Matthew A. Leard as the new 97th Air Mobility Wing Commander and bid farewell to Col. Eric A. Carney, who has served as the wing commander since June 16, 2017.

Leard served as the Vice Commander of the 60th Air Mobility Wing at the Travis Air Force Base in California and was responsible for the readiness and well-being of the active duty, Reserve and civilian personnel and their families.

Prior to that, Leard also served as the Chief of the Commander’s Action Group, U.S. Transportation Command Headquarters at the Scott Air Force Base in Illinois.

During the ceremony, Airmen of the Mighty 97th will honor Carney for his service and welcome Leard as the new wing commander.
