New Family Dollar Set to Invest on the City’s East Side

Local News
Wichita Falls (KFDX) — After months of waiting, folks on the east side of Wichita Falls are about to have far fewer miles to travel to get a larger selection of everyday supplies for home.
For the first time in what could be generations, a national retail business is investing on the east side of Wichita Falls.
“This is a brand new business. A brand new building that we haven’t had in decades.”
Brenda Jarrett’s the director of the Youth Opportunity Center, who along with neighbors,  has long proclaimed the east side an equal section of Wichita Falls. She says now they have something to prove it.
“About time. It’s about time that we are recognized as a viable section of Wichita Falls,” Jarrett said. “And we should have that right here. That’s what’s important.”
Jarrett says she has no doubt the credit for this store being built should be directed toward District 2 City Councilor, Deandra Chenault who spearheaded the project.
“I want to give credit to our city councilor.  She has fought for that and she’s very very very excited.”
“It’s awesome because you don’t have to go way on the other side of town just to get to the store. So it’s very convenient to have it right here,” resident Zuria Wallace said.
Other locals like Charles Lyday says it’s even a convenience for those in the area who need to a close place to shop.
“I had to go long distances to try to get things. A lot of times it’s kind of hard on the older people to get around,” Lyday said.
More reasons why for folks on the east side, this is not just another store in town.
“I think this is going to be a great thing for the east side. I’m glad they put this over here so I really hope it stays here for a long time,” Wallace said.
It’s hoped this will be just the beginning of more investment in and dollars spent on the east side community.
The manager of the Family Dollar says it’s set to open Thursday, Aug. 3, followed by a ribbon cutting Aug. 12.
