New locker rooms unveiled during Boys & Girls Club Week

From education, to after school care, to just having fun, the Boys & Girls Club provides numerous services to youngsters here in Texoma and around the country. Clubs are celebrating their members and accomplishments during Boys & Girls Club Week.

From newly remodeled locker rooms unveiled Tuesday, the renovated gym ceiling, plus the other programs they provide, the club is doing all it can to ensure the boys and girls become successful men and women.

“They saved my life and now I love to give back to what gave so much to me,” Boys & Girls Club Director of Programs Cara Sauceda said.

A former Boys & Girls Club youth herself and now director of programs, Sauceda is celebrating Boys & Girls Club Week and rightly so.

“Before going to the Boys & Girls Club, I was 11. And we had come out of an abusive situation in a different city. And life was scary and life wasn’t understandable as a little girl,” Sauceda said.

“And so many of our kids here at the Boys & Girls Club are in that exact same circumstance. This place gave me somewhere that I could focus on positivity,” Sauceda said.

The one of many clubs she visited as a little girl has undergone a lot of recent updates and improvements: from a restoring the gym’s ceiling, to the renovated locker rooms. Having up to date facilities is one of many necessary resources Sauceda believes helps to ensure young boys and girls have a great shot at achieving their goals, as does Boys & Girls Club of Wichita Falls Executive Director Randy Cooper, himself a former club member.

Another resource, which is always appreciated and needed, is those willing to give of their time.

“We have an excellent volunteer and staff team,” Cooper said.

Another factor they cannot do without, Cooper said, is so many generous donors like those who funded the approximate $200,000 locker room project.
As far as going from youth to executive director, Cooper said he’s grateful for all his club experience and is working to do the same for future generations.

“I’m just a small part of the organization, just very blessed to be a part of the Boys & Girls Club.”

A club providing blessings to its members.
