New restaurants generate revenue in Wichita Falls

Local News

The city of Wichita Falls gained and lost multiple restaurants throughout the 2018 year, but there are still some restaurants residents would like to see make an appearance.

During the 2018 calendar year, Wichita Falls gained some notable restaurants like Angus Burgers, Hook and Ladder, Hooters and many others. Wichita Falls resident Emma Winstead said she would still like to see some more restaurants come to Wichita Falls.

“I go to college in Denton and so we always go to Torchy’s Tacos, so I wish we had one here,” Winstead said.

Rahul Surasi is a first-time restaurant owner, and he owns Namaste Indian restaurant which was one of the new restaurants of the year. He said there were some challenges at the start.

“To build it took us a very long time. That was the big challenge. That took us almost a year to get a restaurant built. Other than that it’s been a good experience so far. I like Wichita Falls,” Surasi said.

Surasi said his restaurant has been received well by the public.

“People definitely love our food because it’s authentic Indian food and we have the buffet all day so they can actually come experience Indian food and all of the varieties,” Surasi said.

Henry Florsheim with the Chamber of Commerce said in any good economy you’re constantly going to have inflow and outflow of businesses.

“You have people willing to risk their investment to open a business, but at the same time, competition drives some businesses out. The bad thing to think about is if you don’t have those new restaurants opening up at the same time those are closing that’s when you’ve got some trouble to look at,” Florsheim said.

Some of the other restaurants that came to Wichita Falls are:

  • Emanuel Salvadorian Mexican Cuisine
  • El Tapatio
  • Rapid Fired Pizza
  • Southern Girl
  • Sam’s Southern Eatery

A new restaurant that’s on the way: Twin Peaks.

A Wichita Falls location hasn’t been determined yet, but we’ll continue to follow up on that throughout the year.

With many restaurants came to Wichita Falls in 2018, residents said they hope there are more to come this year.
