The Montague County Veteran’s Service Office officials are asking for help after the passing of a Vietnam veteran.
Vietnam Army Veteran Norman Beaty has no family around this area, and the authorities with the Veteran’s Service Office are asking for community members to attend his service and show their support.
Beaty was found dead in his home on Feb. 19 by Montague County Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 Kevin Benton.
When he searched Beaty’s home, Benton found memorabilia from the Vietnam War, and that’s when he contacted the Veteran’s Service Office.
“In searching for identifying information, I discovered there was a veterans card on the dresser,” Benton said. “And being that he had died home alone, I just felt like any veteran deserves our recognition, so I contacted the VA.”
During the funeral service, there will be folding of the American flag while military personnel play taps.
Beaty’s funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Nocona Memorial Cemetery.
