OHP investigating deadly accident

Local News
Oklahoma Highway Patrol said no one was wearing a seatbelt in a deadly accident in Jackson County on New Year’s morning.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said it happened around 1:40 Tuesday morning on a county road, just west of the Altus city limit off Highway 62.

OHP investigators said they found Jason Lenard, 28, standing next to an overturned dodge asking bystanders to help his one-month infant, who was trapped in the Dodge.

Authorities said while other motorists worked to help the infant, Lenard ran away. He was later found by Altus Police officers hiding nearby.

The victims pronounced dead at the scene were identified as Angila Gene Lenard, 31, of Lawton, who was pinned in the vehicle, and LJ Lenard, 80, of Altus who was ejected.

The one month old girl was taken by helicopter to OU Children’s hospital with a head injury and is listed as stable.
