Organizations prep for Summer Camps

Local News

Kids across Texoma are counting down the days until summer break and parents may be scrambling to find fun activities.

Folks with Camp Fire North Texas are mowing the lawn and prepping the pool for what they are hoping to be a crazy fun summer.

“It’s the third of June through the 21st and we want all boys and girls, I mean all to come and have a wonderful time this summer,” Camp Fire North Texas Executive Director Bettye Ricks said.

Camp Fire is offering three summer camp sessions for children ages five through 14.

Kids will have swimming lessons, cookouts, nature studies and so much more.

“[They will] make new friends which is very, very important and we are very careful to teach the kids to be kind,” Rick said.

But that is not the only thing to do this summer, River Bend Nature Center has a few camps for the next couple weeks and Lauren McKechnie with Texoma Community Credit Union helps parents view their options all in one place.

“The idea that there is nothing to do in Wichita Falls is a huge myth,” Texoma with Kids’ Lauren McKechnie said. “We started the Texoma with Kids blog as part of our mission at Texoma Community Credit Union, to really provide parents in our area with a resource for things that are budget-friendly,”

Ricks and McKechnie are both hoping parents take their pick and register their kids in the camp that best suits them so they can have a grand of time this summer.

High school students can also get busy with Camp Fire by volunteering to help adult counselors as junior counselors.
