Officers were involved in a shooting at the Avendale Apartments Sunday evening, according to a press release issued by Lawton P.D.

The document said officers were dispatched to the location at 7:23 p.m.

Officers went to that location to conduct a welfare check on Michael Lynn Burton, 57.

While Burton was speaking with officers at the front door they said he brought a gun he was holding behind his back forward and was swinging it aggressively at officers. Officers repeatedly asked him to put the gun down and when he would not comply with their request, officers fired their weapons.

Burton was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. After being treated and released, he was arrested. The officers involved are on paid administrative leave.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation continues to look into the case.

This is a developing story. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.
