OSBI special agents investigating officer-involved shooting

Local News

Special agents are now investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened in Lawton early Sunday morning.

According to officials from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, a patrol officer heard gunshots in the 1800 block of S.W. Lee Blvd.

The officer followed the sounds to a parking lot of a nightclub and when the officer pulled up he said people were pointing to a car speeding away.

Officials say the officer followed the car and tried to pull it over and the driver pulled into the Goodwill Village West apartment complex. That’s when the officer says he blocked in the car and the passenger jumped out and ran.

While the officer was chasing the passenger, Steven Anthony Thompson allegedly began to turn toward the officer with a gun in his hand, then the officer fired his gun several times and hit Thompson in the abdomen and lower leg.

Thompson was taken to Comanche Memorial Hospital and is expected to recover from his injuries.

OSBI officials will prepare a report for the district attorney to determine if the shooting was justified.
