It’s an idea that broke in pool hall, lighting up the call to serve in everyone at the bar.

But this bullseye wasn’t another round on the house — it was something a little warmer.

“Most of the volunteers and most of the people helping with donations are working here or are regulars here,” said Erin Hudson.

Hudson and her friends at Fast Eddy’s started the Texoma Turkey Fund last fall. Since then, they’ve fed dozens of families throughout the holidays, providing turkeys and side dishes. But they couldn’t do it without help.

“You just put the cry out and so many people just come together to help out, whether it’s donations, freezer space for the turkeys — anything and everything that they can think of,” said fellow volunteer Tonya Owen.

“The holidays are something people who are fairly affluent look forward to,” said Hudson. “It’s not something people who are struggling look forward to because there are expectations children and family members have of a wonderful Thanksgiving meal that can’t always be met.”

That’s why we’re paying it forward to the turkey fund, so the family at Fast Eddy’s can continue serve up another round of Thanksgiving meals to the Texomans who need it most.

“We are a family and we’re every bit as dysfunctional as a family sometimes as well,” Hudson said. “But at the end of the day we all come together to take care of our own, take care of others, take care of the community.”

If you would like to help the Texoma Turkey fund before Thanksgiving, just stop in Fast Eddy’s with your donation. To request assistance from the fund before Thursday, send an email to texomaturkeyfund@gmail.com.
