Dallas Morning News- Fort Worth police plan to file a felony charge against an 11-year-old boy in connection with the beating death of a dog Monday afternoon.

The boy will be charged with delinquent conduct animal cruelty-torture Thursday, police said. Officials did not release many details on the incident.

The dog’s owner, Jennifer Knittel, told NBC 5 (KXAS-TV) that she didn’t know if she could be mad at the young suspect.

“But when you’re 11, you know the difference between right and wrong,” Knittel said.

A neighbor saw the boy take the dog, a Cavalier King Charles mix, out of a backyard and chase him with a stick, one of Knittel’s friends posted on Facebook. The boy cornered the dog, named Cookie, and beat him to death, the post says.

Knittel said that her other dog, a German Shepherd, was also outside of her fenced in backyard in the 8200 block of Sleeping Doe Drive. That dog was not hurt. Knittel told NBC 5 that her dog’s necropsy showed he died from a fractured skull and severed spine.

The boy reportedly told his parents that Cookie attacked him.
