A Quanah man is sentenced to more than three decades in prison after being charged with assaulting a woman repeatedly with a wrench.
Vincent Ray Mitchell, 32, will now spend 35 years in prison after entering a guilty plea to felony assault family violence with a deadly weapon.
Last November, 46th Judicial District Attorney Staley Heatly said a woman came to the Vernon Police Department to report that she had been assaulted by Mitchell, an ex-boyfriend.
The victim said while she and Mitchell were in Quanah, Mitchell began to assault her by striking her with his hands and hitting her with a wrench all over her body. Heatly said investigators observed bruising all over the victim’s body consistent with her account.
According to the victim, the assault occurred over a two day period with Mitchell refusing to let her leave the residence.
Mitchell won’t be eligible for release until he has served at least one-half of the sentence
