Americans recycle 34 percent of all the waste they create, according to the latest report from The Environmental Protection Agency.
While the U.S. recycling rate has been increasing over time it was a mere 6.2 percent 50-years ago.
That’s why the City of Wichita Falls created the “Choose to Re-use” program.
They have placed several bins around the city where you can drop off your recyclables.
One of them being at the Sanitation Department near Lucy Park.
Deputy Director of Public Works, Teresa Rose said she’s seen an increase in the use of the bins of the past couple of years and says she hope more people continue to utilize them.
“I’m excited that we can offer a program that is efficient, cost-effective, and still does the environment well and helps to reduce what we throw away in our landfill,” Rose said.
