Volunteer fire departments rely heavily on the generosity of donations, big to small.
One department in the Texoma area hosted its biggest fundraiser of the year on Saturday.
Each house in Lakeside City had its own garage sale. but the Lakeside City volunteer firefighters sold hot dogs, brats and snacks as well.
This 18th annual event provides the funds to keep the fire truck engines running.
“There’s a lot of things that go into the volunteer fire department and so we have to have funds in order to have the support vehicles to assist the community and citizens as needed,” volunteer firefighter Cory Glassburn said.
Items not sold at the fundraiser were donated to Goodwill, and a percentage of the monies collected from Goodwill sales will be donated to the VFD.
