Thousands of pounds of dirt, hundreds of cowboys and the smell of horses and bulls are all attracting rodeo lovers to Vernon for the annual Santa Rosa Roundup.
The celebration started at 4 p.m. Wednesday with the downtown parade where the theme was, “summer’s first blast.”
However, Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. is when the real fun begins. That’s when the Santa Rosa Rodeo Grounds will showcase the top professional cowboys in the country.
“It’s something that just brings everybody together, everybody out,” Vernon Chamber of Commerce Board Member Veronica Fraticelli said. “It’s our biggest event every year. We get numerous tourists and people from out of town that like to come and enjoy it.”
Sponsored by the Santa Rosa Roundup Association, the nightly rodeo will be every night through Saturday.
Visitors can expect calf roping, bronc riding, steer wrestling and more. Tickets are $12 at the gate.
