It’s roundup week in Vernon as the Santa Rosa Palomino Club is hosting the 74th annual Santa Rosa Roundup.
The Santa Rosa Roundup kicked off on Wednesday with a “three cheers for the red white and blue” theme. Vernon resident Shelly Echols attended the parade and said she attends every year.
“It’s just a family tradition,” Echols said. “We have been doing it ever since I was little. Just got to carry it on for the grandkids.”
Santa Rosa Palomino Club member David Fisher said he looks forward to an event on Saturday the most.
“We do an appreciation breakfast for the club members and the rodeo committee, stock contractors and past members,” Fisher said. “That’s kind of the highlight of the weekend for us besides doing the actual drill and performance. That’s a fun time where we get together, eat breakfast, and tell old stories and see friends you haven’t seen since last year.”
Echols said she looks forward to the parade every year.
“All of the colors and all of the time,” Echols said. “People I’ve seen been driving around all week and just seeing people put so much time into it.”
With day one of roundup week in the books, residents look forward to what the rest of the week has to offer.
Some notable events for the rest of the week are on Thursday, Friday and Saturday which are the rodeo will take place at 7:30 p.m. and the dance will take place at 9 p.m.
