After a brief absence in our area, a familiar retail store is making a comeback, with a slightly different look and name.
A Sears Hometown store is currently setting up shop in Wichita Falls.
The store is located in the same shopping center as Hobby Lobby and Mardel Christian Bookstore.
Others remember that location as Hancock’s Fabric.
Unlike a traditional Sears retail store, Sears Hometown sells just hard-line items, such as appliances, tools, as well as lawn and garden items.
Despite the closing of the Sears store at Sikes Senter Mall and the old Scott location before that, the owner of this store, who runs a location in Azle and Mineral Wells, says she’s received calls from customers in our area, wanting Sears products. She says being local will help keep costs down for consumers.
“They’re paying $200 to have something delivered that only costs $400,” said store owner and operator Cheryl Warren. “So, being here directly for the consumer, allows me to have local delivery, which keeps it affordable and it allows customers to still have our product.
Geoffrey Easter, Sears Hometown Operations Manager said he’s excited to open the doors for area customers. He remembers just how much he loved Sears as a kid and wants to share that excitement to everyone who walks through the door.
“We used to have the two-story building on Scott. I use to try and talk my parents into driving upstairs so we could take the escalator down.” Easter said. “Sears has been a part of my life.”
Warren added that they’ve had many people knock on the door, asking when they plan to open.
She said the goal is to open the doors by the end of this month.
