Construction’s about to begin on the main entrance of one of Wichita Falls’ biggest assets.
Sheppard’s Main Gate will close Sunday at 6 p.m. allowing construction to begin Monday for safety improvements.
Due to construction, all in-and out-bound-traffic through the main gate will stop.
The multi-million dollar project is a collaboration of state, federal and local agencies including the city of Wichita Falls.
Mayor Stephen Santellana said the city will benefit from the improvements.
“You got to realize one in eight people are touched by Sheppard Air Force Base,” Santellana said. ” It’s the biggest economic driver in Wichita Falls. We want to do whatever we can to help them.”
The project is expected to be complete by November 2019.
