City officials say a large sinkhole at Goodman Road and Scott Street east of Wichita Falls was caused by a contractor working on the water reuse pipeline.
Director of Public Works Russell Schrieber says the sinkhole opened when the contractor laying the pipeline bored too deep underneath the road creating a cavern for the road to collapse into when he drilled again.
TXDOT representative Adele Lewis says her crews blocked off the lane closest to the sinkhole Monday with barricades and the contractor fortified the roadway with metal and steel plates.
Schreiber says the road is currently safe for drivers but the contractor is preparing a long-term fix. He adds this is a rare instance and shouldn’t happen again during the water reuse pipeline construction.
