The designer from a galaxy far, far away made a stop in town Saturday stopped by Galaxy Comics to discuss his contribution to the Star Wars franchise Saturday.

Colin Cantwell, designer for the ships in the original Star Wars movies, spoke about how a manufacturing defect in the two halves of the first Death Star model led him to conceptualize the trough that Luke Skywalker would fly through even though the Death Star destruction had not been written yet.

But, the ship that made the whole story work was much smaller than the Death Star.

“The X wing was the key piece to make the story transfer to a motion picture,” Star Wars architect Colin Cantwell said.

Cantwell is on a tour for the rest of October with stops in San Angelo, Plano, Fort Worth, and San Antonio.
