Helping the children of Montague County—that’s the goal of Saturday’s street festival in downtown Bowie.
With the help of some local businesses, people helped raise money for a full-time Court Appointed Special Advocate through a street festival and chili cook-off.
Montague County has about 100 children placed in care every year, and Executive Director of CASA of Red River Laura Grimsinger said she is grateful for the support the organization has received from the community.
“It’s exciting. I’m so thrilled,” Grimsinger said. “You have to live here to know how to do this kind of stuff. We were here a couple weeks ago just giving people some information about casa, and Tawni Jones said ‘I can help with that.’ Not only does she want to become a CASA, but she created this entire event to help us raise our funds.
Casa has already raised $3,000 toward their goal but needs $7,000 more to be able to bring on a full time employee.
The street festival will be going on until 9 p.M. So there is still time to get out there and help them out.
