Suspect in Wilbarger Manhunt faces three charges

Local News

A man who led Oklahoma and Texas state troopers on a chase into Wilbarger county last evening is jailed in Wilbarger county on three charges.

32-year-old Calvin Lernzo Johnson also has a warrant for harboring out of Kiowa County. The Texas DPS says the chase began around 6 pm yesterday south of Altus when Oklahoma highway patrol troopers tried to stop a vehicle and the driver refused to stop.

We have not yet learned why troopers were trying to stop the vehicle. Texas DPS troopers joined the chase when the driver entered Wilbarger county.

Shortly after crossing into Texas, troopers say the man jumped out of the vehicle and ran. A DPS helicopter and scent dogs from the Allred prison joined the search along the Red River.

Shortly after 10 pm a trooper in the helicopter spotted the suspect in a cornfield about 17 miles northeast of Vernon and he was taken into custody.
