Teachers mourn 3-year-old run over in Dallas

Local News

Dallas police said the pickup that hit and killed a 3-year-old Wichita Falls boy has been recovered in Irving, but they are still searching for the driver.

Jorge Neri was killed Saturday afternoon in a northwest Dallas strip center parking lot. Ramon Garcia-Ruiz, 24, is the owner of the truck and police believe he was behind the wheel when the boy was hit and killed. Witnesses said the driver never slowed down.

The pickup was found Monday night on a side street near the crime scene and police say the tags had been removed. Ruiz-Garcia’s neighbor said he hasn’t seen him in days and investigators are worried he may flee to Mexico where he has family.

Now as funeral services are pending for the 3-year-old, the YMCA Early Childhood Program in Wichita Falls is remembering his life. His former teacher describes him as a lovable and social kid who will be greatly missed.

“He was really happy. He was really polite. He had like really good manners. He was just happy all of the time. He was really active,” Maria Ribera said.

If you’d be interested in helping with funeral expenses, the YMCA is asking you to drop donations to the YMCA Youth Center at 2600 Spur 325, downtown branch or Bill Bartley branch.
