Texoma Gives one week away

Local News

Area non-profits are one week away from the community coming together and helping their cause.

Texoma Gives is a special day for non-profit organizations. Some of them use the money to help fund projects they are working on and some even use it to help with their summer programs.

This is the third annual event and is organized by the Wichita Falls Area Community Foundation. It is a day where you can go and find the non-profit organization whose mission is something you like and give to them. Wichita Falls Alliance for Arts and Culture Project Manager Audra Lambert, says this day is important.

“It is important that all of the non-profits geared towards the arts have donations because they give so much back to the community. You know even just having an enrichment in the community can bring a lot to the economy,” Lambert said.

The Museum of North Texas History Executive Director Madeleine Calcote says they are thankful for a day like this.

“It is absolutely wonderful. I mean it’s hard as a small non-profit to work on these major fundraising campaigns. So, by having a day like Texoma Gives where someone else is doing a lot of the legwork and we just kind of have to jump on and say hey this is our project please help us. Is a huge, huge help,” Calcote said.

Calcote says the museum has a specific way they are going to use their money.

“We are focusing on our new children’s exhibit area. We’ve already raised over 80% of the funds that we need. So, we just need 20% more so that we can go ahead and get the project rolling,” Calcote said.

This is just one of the ways an organization may use their money, Lambert says they are going to use theirs a different way.

“We are raising funds for our 2019 summer arts enrichment program, one world gallery. This year we served more than 450 area children from as close to home as Wichita Falls, Burkburnett and as far away as Vernon, Texas,” Lambert said.

Whatever you use it for, whether you are like the Museum of North Texas History and use the money to help fund a project. Or you may be like the Wichita Falls Alliance for Arts and Culture and use it for a children’s program. One thing is for certain, non-profits across the region are thankful for your donations.
