The City of Bowie has begun what’s known as its chlorine burnout. The city’s water treatment plant will be changing its water disinfectant during which customers might notice a minor odor and a change in taste in their water.

The public works director explains that over time the combination of ammonia and chlorine, which the city uses to treat its water builds up over time which makes it necessary for the city to use chlorine only to clear out the water system.

The city says after 30 days the water should return to normal.
