The City of Wichita Falls is having more wayfinding sign issues

Local News

After experiencing some issues with the city’s wayfinding signs just last year, the City of Wichita Falls is having even more problems.

Last summer some of the signs across the city were misspelled, misplaced, and even misnamed. Some of the notable locations of these mishaps were at the Regional Airport where the sign read Municipal Airport and the River Road Recovery Plant sign states the Research Plant.

Now one sign located off of 6th street has fallen off from the pole it was attached to. The city spent around $1.6 million for about 300 of the signs and began installing them in 2015. Mayor Stephen Santellana said even though they have run into these problems, the sign project has been worth it.

“When you have that out there you have outside visitors that don’t know Wichita Falls where or people that are in Wichita Falls that are trying to get around. You see in other communities that these are just great to have. It’s a great asset to have. If you are looking for MSU or any of your major landmarks that’s kind of where we started,” Mayor Santellana said.

Mayor Santellana said the sign that fell might have fallen because of the bolts shearing off from the pole. He said if it is under warranty the company will come out and repair it.
