(KRBC) A 4-year-old boy is now safe thanks to strangers who jumped into action after witnessing him crossing a busy south Abilene street alone.

The toddler, Xavier, was seen crossing the street on the corner of South 14th and Tanglewood Tuesday morning while the traffic light was green.

Xavier tells us he was on a mission.

“I had to go to McDonald’s,” Xavier said.

Multiple drivers stopped and got out of their vehicles to help divert traffic away from the boy. Abilene police responded and helped get Xavier to safety and find his parents.

The boy was unharmed.

His mother says she was cleaning and the next thing she knew he was out the back door.

“They called me and told me my little boy is missing,” Julie Vazquez, Xavier’s mother, said.

At this point there have not been any charges filed, but Child Protective Services is currently looking in to what happened.
