Downtown Wichita Falls has been rapidly growing over the past few years, with restaurants to boutiques and many others choosing downtown as their location to set up shop.
One of the newest businesses in the area is the Wichita Falls Barber Academy and owner Byron Lacey said he couldn’t have picked a better location.
“I think its a perfect location for it because its the center of town and you know with the growth and transformation that they’re trying to do down here, I think it was a good move for me and the community as well,” Lacey said.
Lacey has been a barber for about 17 years and says he’s happy that he can now offer training to others here locally, so they don’t have to relocate like he did.
“This is my reason for moving back, and it took a while but, you know, you gotta keep pushing and fighting through whatever you’re trying to achieve in life and it will happen,” Lacey said. “Just gotta stay there, keep God first and keep on moving.”
Just a few blocks down there is a recently opened Tex-Mex restaurant Juan and Juanita’s and cook Tina Ayala said business is booming.
“It’s been good, we didn’t expect it to start off so good because we didn’t have flyers or anything,” Ayala said. “We just posted on social media and it blew up it took off real fast.”
For Ayala, the location of their operation is key to the businesses success.
“I think we’re in a great location,” Ayala said. That’s what helped it a lot.”
“I think with this barber college being here, you know eastside is just right there, then northside over there and you have the avenues right there,” Lacey said. “So, its right in the middle of everything so it’s not a far commute for anybody.”
The location is why Lacey says it was a good move and he hopes the area continues to thrive for years.
