Texas Department of Transportation is warning spring breakers to “plan while they can”.
In 2018, Texas saw 444 accidents involving young drivers operating vehicles under the influence during Spring Break.
Eleven of those were fatalities and 37 seriously injured.
TxDOT officials set up an interactive virtual reality experience at MSU on Wednesday that quizzes the participants on the dangers of drunk driving, hoping at the end of their round, a valuable lesson would be learned.
“Being competitive is a great way to get people to learn,” MSU freshman Kenidee Cooper said. “No one ever wants to get that call that someone has been in an accident and it was fatal so I think it is important for us to know our limit.”
TxDOT officials are taking this game to 10 Texas cities throughout March hoping through education there will be a reduction in those numbers.
