The United States Coast Guard is offering some safety tips for those boating this holiday weekend.

The biggest piece of advice: never boat under the influence.

The Coast Guard officials said alcohol is the leading contributing factor in fatal boat accidents. Also, wear a life jacket. In 2017, 76 percent of all fatal boating accident victims drowned. And file a float plan.

The Coast Guard recommends leaving a plan with a family member or friend who is not on the boat.
